Cornwall Partners in Care News

Cornwall Partners in Care hold weekly briefings with Cornwall Council and Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation trust. These meetings involve Jonathan Price (Joint Director Adult Care and Health for Cornwall Council and NHS Kernow) and Phil Confue (Chief Executive of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation trust), as well as David Smith (CPIC Chairman) and representatives from the CPIC Committee.

Daily update - 27th November 2020

The meeting today was with Jonathan Price and Val Smith with myself, Mary, Christine, and Phil.

We discussed the following;

1/ Jonathon asked if CPIC could send a representative to ICC meetings chaired by either Kate Shields or Phil Confue and which take place every Thursday. Val agreed to send an agenda detailing the different task and finish groups, and this will be a matter for further discussion at the next CPIC Committee meeting.

2/There are some positive Covid patients in the system, and while there is a Community Hospital facility in Helston for such cases they are keen to move them on. Jonathon asked if Care Homes could be asked to accommodate these cases in specific Covid secure areas. It was agreed that the question could be asked, but it was noted that there were some limiting factors which need to be addressed. The first was CQC compliance, and the second was staffing.

3/ The current pressures could become even more intense over the Christmas period and proposals to address these pressures would be welcome. A suggestion to provide "clusters" of on -call providers and the payment of a retainer had been discussed at a residential forum. Richard to obtain feedback from Providers as to whether or not this was a viable option.

4/ The Proud to Care recruitment campaign was discussed, and while the initial response had been promising, it was noted that the "conversion rate" into actual employment was limited. It was agreed that some proposals be worked on to look at possible solutions for further discussion at the Wednesday meeting. Proposals for consideration will include recruitment from Europe, and the possibility of working up deals with recruitment agencies. Accomodation and transport issues will also need to be considered.

5/ Christine reported that at the last End of Life Board Meeting concern had been expressed that some doctors were over riding TEPS forms by insisting on hospital admissions.
